Birds Eye View of The Revenant starring Leonardo DiCaprio

Birds Eye of Big Sky was initially asked to scout locations for the feature film at Kootenai Falls in Libby, Montana. Later, we were asked to film stunt doubles and mannequins precariously cascading over Kootenai Falls and down the Kootenai River.

Drone Gear and Stunt Crew

Our CineStar 8 MK Heavy Lift Octocopter flew a Canon 5D Mark III, and 24-70mm to scout various locations along the Kootenai River.

We worked closely with the Stunt Coordinator, and filmed stunt doubles and mannequins rushing over the falls with our DJI Inspire a little more than a month later. Matt filmed one (of two) stunt double swimming down Kootenai River in a authentic bear suit costume (seen in pictures below).

Location

After completing our scout mission, Matt took our DJI Inspire for a flight over Kootenai Falls in Libby, Montana. Check out the video below:

The Kootenai River penetrates a canyon and flows over Kootenai Falls. Being one of the largest untamed waterfalls in the northwest, it is clear why the falls and surrounding area are considered sacred to the Kootenai Indians whose ancestors inhabited the region. It offers an unparalleled view, as the Kootenai River drops 300' in elevation as it travels just a few hundred yards down river. Filmed with a DJI Inspire 1 on a foggy morning in June.

We had such a great time working on this set, and can't wait to watch the movie!
